Hopefully the reading of proper dvd disc-id will be inplemented in Xreveal at some point. https://www.xreveal.com/download.html
When that happens, we won't need AnyDVD-HD no more.

I have a pending request/support ticket on this topic (#295). As per 23-11-24 it's not yet implemented.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
295.
[i]Feature Request: Let Xreveal handle/parse disc-id of DVD (yes, DVDs) in the same manner as AnyDVD-HD 8.7.1.1. If I insert a DVD into my drive with Xreveal running I get a different disc-id then with AnyDVD-HD running. I use Invelos DVD Profiler as database for my movies. It will read the disc-id and store it. I get unreliable data when I use Xreveal. Here's an example:

The US DVD of "Santa Fe" (upc043396091344) :

Disc-id (w/AnyDVD-HD: F88EE6FCAC94ADDB [DVD_VIDEO] <-- correct one
Disc-id (w/Xreveal: 9AD33290D7BD1C11 [DVD_VIDEO] <-- wrong
Disc-id (w/nothing: 974F5A2E6D422248 [DVD_VIDEO]

I know that Xreveal collects the correct id, because it's listed under "DVDID" in the status-page (DVDID: F88EE6FCAC94ADDB). I just need Xreveal to pass on that id to the OS, so that when I press get disc-id from drive in DVDProfiler, I get the correct id read.

Thanks. :-) 11-02
...
I see, already on our TO-DO list. Need to hook Windows COM interface, still in researching.

Yes, Xreveal uses the correct id to compatible with DVDProfiler, maybe in the future, will add the feature: "query disc info by the DVDID"[/i]

(...) Here is what I am trying to do now (when updating ClipCapitalizer):

- Always capitalize the first and last word.
- Keep the following words in lower case (unless first or last):
a, an, and, as, at, but, by, for, in, nor, of, off, on, or, out, to, the, up, vs

Have I missed anything?

Looks great
I can only see two words missing; 'so' and 'yet' (as mentioned by ObiKen).

Jack Arnold (1916)
Director/Producer/Writer
Known for: Boss N-Word (blaxploitation western with an awesome soundtrack!), Creature from the Black Lagoon, High School Confidential!, The Incredible Shrinking Man, It Came From Outer Space, Monster on the Campus, Tarantula, and TV-credits in Alias Smith and Jones, The Bionic Woman, The Brady Bunch, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Gilligan's Island, The Mod Squad, Nancy Drew, and much, much more.

I'm not sure if this is correct... wikipedia lists his birth as October 14, 1916, while other sources such as tmdb and imdb lists his birth as October 14, 1912. unfortunately none of the sources go back to a birth-cerificate or other official registries. There's some evidence that seem to suggest that 1912 is probably the correct year. For instance the 1992 death notice in Los Angeles Times[1] which stated he died at 79 years old. That would match the 1912 birth-year. Also we have the gravestone for him and his wife. Where it clearly states 1912.[2] If someone is lying about their age, they usually pretend to be younger than they are and mostly alive when they are doing it. which would let me to believe that the gravestone is probably correct and most of the internet bios wrong propagating the same erronous birth-year.

I have an old silent movie on BR that has NO onscreen cast/crew credits (although there ARE known credits on IMDB and elsewhere).  Should I contribute this profile without any cast/crew credits?

Here's what the rules say :
"If there are no credits, the film's official site may be used as a source, as long as the inclusion does not violate the site's published policy (if any)."

For silent movies, in addition to the publishers web-page, usually accompanying booklet or cover is accepted as source if there's zero on-scren credits. Also some silent movies have on-screen credit when the characters are first seen on screen instead of traditional intro credits.

Hi Kvack

I would suggest a ASUS BW-16D1HT Drive (which can read both BDs and UHDs). It will cost you around ~94 USD. + an optical drive enclosure if you need that (around 25-60 USD).
Unfortunately I don't know of any cheaper solutions. Maybe you can get a LG BH16NS55 for less somewhere, but you'll also need a drive enclosure/adapter for that one too.

Try it with a DVD instead, and I'm sure you'll get results similar to mine!

You are absolutely correct. Here's the DVD-results:

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (no programs/decrypters running)
C49C850886D0DC90 [DVD_VIDEO]

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (with AnyDVD-HD v8.7.1.1)
C81CD01F5AADD9F6 [DVD_VIDEO]

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (with Xreveal)
9BF5F3FB2C25547F [DVD_VIDEO]

All three scenarios gives different disc-ids. That's not good....

Seems like AnyDVD-HD still is the only way to get the proper disc-id on newer Windows 10 and Windows 11 versions.

Update: As you mentioned (and I can see the same behaviour on my system); Xrevel does indeed list the proper DVD-id in the status/Disc information tab (which matches AnyDVD-HD), but it will not send this id to DVD Profiler when adding the disc. If Xreveal can implement the same 'relay actual disc-id to requesting process' like AnyDVD did in a future version that would be great. (Still the best would be for Microsoft the fix the cdrom.sys driver, but I don't see that happening anytime soon..)

That's interesting...

I'm going to try different options on my main computer (Running Windows 10 22H2 v10.0.19045.4529)

Update: this is how it looks on my system;
For this test I'm removing the disc for 'The Caine Mutiny' Blu-Ray. Then re-adding disc-id without any real-time decrpyer, with AnyDVD-HD, or with Xreveal. (I'm removing the disc, saving the profile, opening the profile and re-adding the disc between each try). Here's the results;

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (no programs/decrypters running)
E13095E11BB8D15F [THE_CAINE_MUTINY]

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (with AnyDVD-HD)
E13095E11BB8D15F [THE_CAINE_MUTINY]

Disc-id in DVD-Profiler (with Xreveal)
E13095E11BB8D15F [THE_CAINE_MUTINY]

Existing Disc-id in the Invelos database:
E13095E11BB8D15F [THE_CAINE_MUTINY]

Hmmm, I can't replicate your findings. On my system I get the same disc-id regardless of Decryptor software. It seems pretty consistent here.

When 4K UHDs was first released the specifications by the BDA Associations was such that region-coding was not part of the specs and all UHDs should be completely Region-free. Therefore it was no point in having a region-field in DVD Profiler for UHD discs and it was not added when DVDProfiler first started supporting 4K UHDs.

Unfortunately some authoring-houses found a way around the madatory region-free UHD specs by using region Java-code intended for Blu-Rays on 4K UHD discs.

As for why Invelos hasn't updated DVDprofiler to support it ? I believe there's been no updates the last 7 years. It seems abandoned. I'm not counting on any new versions in the forseeable future. unfortunately

Hi GSyren

I don't know if this is of any help at all, but here goes; As I understand it, the rules for Title capitalization and Rating capitalization are different.

Capitalization rules for the rating-field is;
"(...)"Capitalize all words except joining words such as "of", "the", "a", "in"(...)"

Capitalization rules for the title:
"(...)"per the Associated Press style title standard"(...)"

Here is a description of the updated AP rules;

The Associated Press (AP) 2020 Edition Stylebook Capitalization Rules :

1.) Capitalize the first and the last word.
2.) Capitalize nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs (including phrasal verbs such as “play with”), adverbs, and subordinate conjunctions.
3.) Lowercase articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions, and prepositions.
4.) Lowercase the second word in a compound modifier (e.g., Mid-year or On-site).
5.) Capitalize words with four or more letters (including conjunctions and prepositions).
6.) Capitalize both parts of a hyphenated word (new as of 4/25/23).
7.) Capitalize the ‘to’ in an infinitive (e.g., I Want To Play Guitar).

If the tool/program you are writing is for the rating-field only, it should be fairly straight-forward. Capitalize first letter of all words except conjunctions. If it's for both Tile and Rating field, you'll have to do some more programming.

(note that languages other than english may have different rules)

It doesn't fix the problem permanently, though. Ater a complete refresh, the next standard (delta) refresh fails again. I have to perform Ctrl-Refresh each time.

Same here. I have to do the Ctrl+Refresh trick regulary now it seems...
