I just got this comment from My Movies relating to Mediadogg's comments:

We specifically have physical media profiles, which as DVD Profiler means disc release specific data - we have generic movie profiles as well, as what IMDB have, but our coverage on physical media is actually significantly better than what DVD Profiler has.

The point is, when you import from DVD Profiler, we create an exact match of the title you have in DVD Profiler based on the barcode, to the same title in our service - there can be a few titles that are registered with incorrect barcodes in your DVD Profiler database, and even in rare cases one or more titles we do not have in our service.

Titles that cannot be matches are few, and currently not imported - we are looking to extend the importer to create personal profiles for titles that cannot be matched, but we naturally cannot import covers and detailed data based on the XML only from DVD Profiler.

But it is very wrong to assume that you will only be collecting generic movie profiles.

You will often see that the data quality we have is actually an improvement over what you are coming from in DVD Profiler.

Mediadogg: I'm not considering moving to another app because I don't like DVD Profiler. I do. I really do. I am instead looking for a viable iOS alternative, since Invelos seems to have abandoned iOS with the recent server update. While I can still use my iOS devices since I am running Windows 10 on my Intel Mac, Microsoft is abandoning Windows 10 next year. I am not a Boy Scout, but I believe in being prepared.

Can you not install Windows 11 on your Intel Mac? Despite what MS says, many older computers can run Win11.

I didn't even try since you can download Windows 10 from MS for free but you have to pay for Windows 11. Since I only run DVD Profiler using Bootcamp on my Mac, it didn't seem cost effective.

That technically isn't difficult to do if you have DVDProfiler installed and they know where DVDP is installed. All they have to do is copy/import the files from the current DVDProfiler location.

However, My Movies was really designed for streaming copies of your movies and the Windows interface is lacking.

Actually, you can download Windows 11 for free from MS, and install it if you have a existing Windows 10 license. Are you saying you don't have a Windows 10 license?

Yes. No license. MS let's you download a limited version of Windows 10 for free. While not fully functional, it is just fine for running DVD Profiler on an Intel Mac. Therefore I would need to buy 11.

Just got this from My Movies:

It should now be finalized for DVD Profiler to the extend I believe it should - you can upload as zip also.

We would love some feedback from as many users as possible.

One big difference I remember My Movies having (it's been a while since I last took a close look though), is the handling of Box Sets and even more so TV series...

The one advantage My Movies has for me (and some other users) is, that they have a native macOS version, so Windows virtualization will no longer be necessary.

But based on the first point, similar to Gunnar, I will likely only switch once DVD Profiler becomes unusable. There is always that speck of hope in me...

I just used the same XML export file to attempt an import into iCollectMovies and MyMovies.

The MyMovies import website didn't work at all in Safari and resulted in a cryptic error message in FireFox.  I reported it and am waiting for feedback from MyMovies.

I haven't yet heard back from iCollectMovies. I'll keep you posted.

After working with the MyMovies rep, I was able to import my library.
The iPad interface is very different and will take some time to get used to. My first impression is negative but that could change as I play with it.  It successfully imported my notes and movie provider (that's good), but did not import the date purchased or the price paid (that's bad). While initially limited to 50 titles, it will be difficult will be difficult to form an opinion, particularly for boxed sets. However they do offer 2 week and 1 month free trials, which I may give a try. They are a bit pricey after that, charging $15/year for iOS only and $40/year for iOS/Mac/PC.

Still waiting for feedback from iCollectMovies.

Just heard back from iCollectMovies. Unfortunately they only import CSV files. On a positive note, however, they use barcodes so I'll give the XML to CSV conversion process another try.

The proof is in the pudding. So far nobody has been successful at it. So, all the boasting aside, I will believe it when I see it. I have no axe to grind.

As far as the IMDB Title ID reference, they are included on the Profile Links page. It should be relatively easy for the import program to use an internal browser to capture the IMDB ID from the HTML.

Example: Here is a Canadian release of Æon Flux. Notice the DVD Profiler profile ID in the URL.

Also, I encourage all, including MY Moves staff, to heed the following requirements posted as part of the Profiler XML Export process:

"In order to use the Export Profile Database function, you must
accept the following usage policy by clicking on the Accept button
below.  If you do not wish to accept the usage policy, click the
Decline button below.  By declining, you will be unable to access
this function.

The Export Profile Database function exports your collection's
information to an XML file.  The information contained in those
export files are for your personal use only and cannot be employed
for use in any other setting.

For commercial use, please send email to
[email protected] or click on the Commercial Use email
button below."

I just retried importing into My Movies after running DVD Profiler Repair and then exporting selecting everything but Easter Eggs and crew. It went relatively well with a few burps but while it imports the purchase place, it still doesn't import the purchase date or price. Bummer! I passed this info on to them and am awaiting a reply.
On a positive note, I've found their tech support to be very responsive.

I just got this response from MyMovies relating to how they handle box sets:
As DVD Profiler, we support box sets with child titles – where a box set contains of a parent title with child titles – we cannot create matches on the child titles imported from DVD Profiler because the child titles do not have identifiers, but when we import the parent title with child titles from our service, the result is typically the same – we ignore the child titles that DVD Profiler has for the title, and instead add the parent with an information to include the child titles we have in our service. This basically means that you almost always will get the same result, but, there can be situations where a title is only created as a parent title in our service, in which case you will not get the child titles, and similar it can be that there are titles for which DVD Profiler also only have a parent title, where you could get a full box set from our service. The handling of box sets is very similar though.

In regards to TV Series, there is a difference in handling, but you will also here get a match to the profiles in our service, where we typically have more TV Series data than DVD Profiler – each profile in our service have informations on which TV Series it is, and which episodes it contains. This information is available on the details page in the apps, where you can see details of the TV Series, and the episodes contained within the profile. We are not importing that data from DVD Profiler, but when a title is matched to a profile in our service, you get the TV Series data we have for it – again here, there can be a difference in so that we potentially can have a title that does not hold the TV Series data, where there can be titles that does hold it, where it did not in DVD Profiler.

The import can with our approach never be a complete 1:1 conversion, as we specifically match your profiles to our service, giving you the benefits of the features we can provide with it, including the option of getting profile data updates when other users contribute to the data.
