Holy thread resurrection Batman!  Figured I'd chime in on this anyway.  Well, I've always wanted to be able to filter by a given aspect ratio.  Not long ago I took care of that in a way.  I created an "Aspect Ratio" tag with "Child" tags under that for each aspect ratio.  I then proceeded to set the aspect ratio tag for all 5,031 of my profiles adding new "Child" tags along the way as needed.  It's awesome to be able to filter by aspect ratio now.  Below is a list of the aspect ratios I ended up with.

1.33, 1.37, 1.56, 1.66, 1.75 ,1.78 ,1.85 ,2.00 ,2.20 ,2.21 ,2.35 ,2.39 ,2.40 ,2.55 ,2.76 ,2.89

The one thing I didn't do was tag a given title with more than one aspect ratio where applicable.  I didn't think about that until seeing this thread.  Well, I did so with my parent profiles, but only in cases where the primary aspect ratio for the child titles differed.  I didn't cover instances where during a given presentation the aspect ratio changes.  Will be going back now and updating my profiles accordingly.  I use physical masking for scope content with my 16:9 (1.78:1) projector screen, so knowing if a given presentation contains multiple aspect ratios will be very helpful.  After some time has past I tend to forget which titles have multiple aspect ratios aside from the Nolan films.

To each his own, but I despite movies that use multiple aspect ratios.  At best I find it distracting.  As such, I've been working up alternate versions of said movies, versions that use the primary aspect ratio throughout.  To reauthor I'm using multiAVCHD as its "Transcode" option has a AviSynth section with "Crop/Zoom", "Resize" and "Uncrop" settings built-in.  To the left of that is a preview window which you can set to any point in the timeline.  The preview window shows exactly what the given frame will look like based on your settings.  Makes it simple stupid to confirm you've cropped down just enough before uncropping back to 1920x1080.

And one last thought on this stuff.  If DVD Profiler were ever to be updated again I'd love to see the "Video Formats" section enhanced.  Over at Blu-ray.com, their database includes "Aspect Ratio" and "Original Aspect Ratio", the "Aspect Ratio" being what's presented on the disc, the "Original Aspect Ratio" being well, the original aspect ratio.  It would be most excellent if DVD Profiler offered the same.  And yes, at the very least DVD Profiler could include a "contains multiple aspect ratios" type checkbox short of a way to call out said aspect ratios.
