There is a way to do this using tags if you're interested.

Yes if it could work, I'm interested but inside DVDProfiler, not with an external program.

Regards.

Alright, I tested this and it works fine.

1. Click on Tools\Edit Tags
2. Add Tag and call it whatever you want and click OK and OK, in my test case I called it Original Tile
3. Navigate to the profile(s) that have an Original Title
4. Click on DVD\Personalize or just hit Ctrl+P
5. Check the box along side of the Tag you created.
6. Do this for all titles with an Original Title
7. Then bring up find (Ctrl+F) and click on tags then the one you created and that will only show you the profiles with the tag you created.

The first time it will take a while to find them all, but from there on out as you add a profile that has an Original Title field check the box.

This is part of the DVDP program, not an external program or plugin. I hope this helps.

OK and thanks...it works but it is still not what I want.

In this case, I can have a list of the movie that have an Original title...but I can't see the list of the original titles and as I still can't display the field Original title, it doesn't solve my problem.

But thanks, I've learned something I didn't know...

Regards.

Morti

Alright, add this to the mix, once you have the list of Original Titles tags, go to Tools\Options and on the Display tab, click Title Format\Original Title then Collection\View As List (Ctrl+F1).

How does that work for you?

Better and better...    but it is still not that...sorry...

In this case I have the list of all movie with Original titles but not the list of Titles on the side...only one field is displayed.

And by the way, if I've did the last thing directly, I also had the list of the Original titles.
The difference is that I can see also all the movies with no original title...and that is not a problem.

Just to explain...I'm Belgian and I have a lot of movies in French where I don't need this option but also movies in English or other languages.
And you have no idea the imagination French people develop to find ridiculous titles for foreign movies.
Sometimes I have a movie only bith the original title, sometimes with the translation and I would see the list with both fields.

For me it was just a question of activate the Original title in the available fields but apparently, it is more complicated.

I thank all of you for your efforts...I continue to search...

Regards.

Oh...what a surprise, I found another problem.

As I don't want to modifiy the existing Collection list, I tried to create a new one.
I use Collection/Edit collection categories to choose the fiels I want to see.
OK but after ?
I have no titles in the list...it is empty...
Do I forgot something or is it not possible ?

Thanks again for your help.

Regards.

There are a few things that are not clear to me.
- What the external BulkEdit would do that your plugin doesn't do.
- How I could "seed the internal database"?
- What BulkEdit does, exactly. Ok, I think I understand the basic idea, but I have never needed to use it, so there are most likely features that I would have study up on.

But you have planted the idea. And those are usually like weed - almost impossible to get rid of.

Well this is a conversation that I consider to be well worth it. So I don't mind investing the time. I have hoped for someone to come along who had the skills and desire to take a "BulkEdit" type of product to another level, or approach from a different persepctive, perhaps with some cool new features. BulkEdit, after LoadDVD is my most popular plugin. I have invested masses of time on it. It does things that I was explicitly told "you will not be able to do that," so it also a source of great pride. Some of the effort that I originally put into it, is no longer needed, because Ken listened and added things to the main program that, in the past, you could only do with BulkEdit (e.g. DVD Copy / Paste).

So, here is a list, from memory, of BulkEdit functions. I will try to cull out the ones that would not make sense in an external tool:

Main Editing Functions (that I can remember)
- Load collections of profile data in a spreadsheet like format
- Load by category, flagged, XML, CSV
- Edit existing profile data, or create new profiles from XML and CSV (people have recovered entire databases this way. Especially before there was restore from Online)
- Automatic creation of unique manual profiles when profile ID is missing in imported data
- Automatic Locality guessing when Locality is missing in imported data
- Import specific non-profiler formats: CollectorZ, DVD Spot, (maybe others I forgot)
- Customizable CSV import. Built-in automatic recognition of legacy DVDP "2.4" format and the CSV Export plugin formats
- Select which columns of data get displayed
- Rearrange column headings either in the selection list or output display
- Sort entire sheet by clicking column header
- Ability to force a text field that includes numbers to sort correctly by prefix padding
- Drop downs created for all multi-value fields, even if not available in the API. BE crawls through the database and builds data source arrays from the set of values in the database. Less of that is need now, due to DVDP enhancements, so I am not sure how much "crawling" is still needed. For example, there used to be no way for a plugin to get a list of all the users or retailers internally. Now there is.
- Simple Find / Replace within a column
- Regex find / replace within a column
- Row by row, prefix or append text to the contents of a text field
- Row by row, prefix or append the contents of one column to another
- VB / C# script execution. Results can update data in place, or be placed in work columns
- Row by row, column copy (e.g. Copy Original Title into Sort Title)
- Change simulation to test the impact of changes before making actual database updates
- Change and error log to evaluate why some change didn't work or allow for manual undo
- Save Validated changes makes real-time updates to the database from the spreadsheet
- Export XML
- Bulk load "personal data" - stuff that does not download from invelos, and update an exiting database, using the profile ID as a key. You could do mass updates of notes, Location, Slot, Links etc. that way.
- "ScrapeGoat" feature. Using the forum handle of a user, access the user's public online collection and selectively add profiles to your own collection. Not personal data of course. Just the profile IDs are scraped from the web page, and then you can selectively download profiles from the Invelos Online.
- QuickSearch feature (Alt-F9) searches the entire database - every field in a cached XML for a specific string. Ability to include / exclude cast / crew. Ability to refresh the XML cache before running the search. Profiles where the string is found are flagged. In addition to all fields, Collection Number, Purchase place and Purchase Price can be selected for some reason. Maybe in the past you couldn't filter for them. I don't remember.

Functions that are best done in a plugin
- Real time flag and filter functions (example: easy "flag in-between")
- Real time database update
- Create manual, Disc ID, Child, Custom profile IDs (remember, Ken has added to the main program since BE was originally created. I haven't tried to systematically take stuff out.)
- Added several functions under Collection
  - Flag In-between
  - Flag Box Set
  - Flag Gifts
  - Flag Watched
  - Flagged Add Disc
  - Flagged Clone to Manual
  - Flagged Clone to Disc ID
  - Flagged Clone Children from DiscIDs
  - Flagged Delete All Discs
  - Flagged Clear Collection#
  - Flagged Flag Child Profiles
  - Flagged Flag Parents

That's most if it. I have always wondered what some other developer might do with the concept, or whether it would be useful to have a standalone version that would read in a collection from XML, create its own internal database, do some bulk editing, then spit out a revised XML file to create a new database or update an existing one.

Oh, BIG CAVEAT: Bulkedit has always explicitly and intentionally avoided attempting to edit CAST and CREW. Import of cast and crew is supported, but all editing functions are relegated to much smarter people!

Your premise is incorrect. A custom collection category does not provide you with a way to somehow add "Original Title". Also, the Invelos concept of category is "membership" , not "view". To see things in a category, you have to MOVE the profiles to that category, with the exception of All and Owned, which can share membership with another category.

To create a view, you need to either filter the collection, or use a method that supports the desired view. Unfortunately, the view you want requires the use of either external programs or plugins, and that is not likely to change any time soon.

The only other thing I can suggest is HTML Sections.

Using View HTML Windows -> Edit -> File New (give a name)

Add this:

<HTML>
<HEAD>

<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript">
<!--
<DP NAME="HEADER_VARS" Language="JavaScript" Comments="True" IncludeCast="False" IncludeCrew="False">
//-->
</SCRIPT>

</HEAD>
<BODY>
Title: <DP NAME="TITLE">
<BR>
Original Title: <DP NAME="ORIGINAL_TITLE">
</BODY>
</HTML>

After saving, you can View (the name you gave), and you will get a window. Each time you change the DVD, you will see the Title and Original Title together in that window. You can dock the window and will stay where you put it. I know that is not what you want, but you can't get what you want today, or any time soon I think.

Click here for an example

DVD Profiler does have bug that will show the Title as Original Title if there is nothing in the Original Title field. But if you put something in there, the HTML section will show it.

Otherwise, you have only the choices of an external tool, an internal plugin or wait.

Great thanks for your support, I appreciate...

In fact, it is my mistake but I don't know enough about this software and I thank it was easier than it is.

In my idea (forget the field Original title), the Collection view was simply a view of some fields and that I can create as much views as I want.
Big mistake, it doesn't work like this...I've learn something...

We have 4 views (All, Owned, Ordered and Wish) configured by the software if I understand well.
As I don't use Orderd and Wish, I have 2 views with the same content and there I can choose the fields I want to see.
That's what I use and it is OK.

My surprise is why we can't have access to Original title that is a field like Title but I suppose it is a choice.

As I said, in Belgium we have movies from other countries with really different titles translated in French and by example, the movie Sorcerer = Le convoi de la peur...very different.
If someone ask me info about Sorcerer, I have to check all the movie with Original title...you gave me some ideas to do that. Not really user friendly...

But I found another solution yesterday...the report.
I can configure a report where I can select Original title in addition of Title and I have what I want...but on paper.
That is also why I it is a shame that we can't select Original title in the available fields for a view when this field is easily available in report.

But OK, I will leave you in peace now, I've learned a lot of tricks and I thank all of you for your collaboration.

Bye...until my next question...

Best regard.

Ok Morti, it is all good. Along with report, I reiterate my suggestion you look at HTML sections. Because, there, you can display anything on the screen, instead of paper - except one DVD at a time, not as a list.

Is it possible to modify the existing menu, with a plug-in, to add the original title as a sort option?

I've tried your suggestion and it is not bad, I've put a button to access immediately this option.

Thanks...
