I bought over a dozen South Park Seasons before they started doing Blu-ray releases, so I've kept buying them in DVD format. I've compared the SD and HD versions and that sort of simple animation doesn't warrant a re-purchase. Plus, it would look wonky on my shelf. I have season 23 DVD pre-ordered!

Some obscure and independant movies are still released DVD-only, so I'll buy those if I really like the movie.

Otherwise it's Blu-ray goodness!

I don't think I'll ever get into 4K for MANY reasons: shelf storage space, how old I am, how much time and money I've spent on upgrading most of my DVDs to Blu-ray, the weak used market for selling off movies I've upgraded, my eyesight resolution, my television wall space limits, my spouse's love and patience through the years of all my collecting things to watch, my numerous other hobbies I enjoy, why support the studios for releasing the same set of movies again on 4K when we're begging for other titles to be released on Blu-ray, the retail shopping space shutdown of most home media sales, studios who failed in their Blu-ray transfers or extras department who can't be trusted to do it proper for 4K, shifted priorities of what's important in life with recent events on Planet Earth, etc...

One doesn't go from new to old in the blink of an eye.  There is a transition period that's as long as each of us would like it to be.  An "old" movie for me is one that was around during my youth.  YMMV.

That is what my two millenial sons think, too. So anything produced before, say, 2010 is old. That is about 90% of my collection

AFAIC, an old movie = classic Hollywood, so anything made before 1970 (technically, 1968).

I had a relapse. 



And it just feels more fitting to have a 90s sitcom on DVD.

Streaming offers few valuable "old" titles. And we become dependent on the choice of these companies. You can't watch what you want. Long live DVDs and Blu-Rays!
