Do you have a HDCP compatibel display (ie DVI connection)? If not then I think you're out of luck. I don't think any software player will work without some additional software that bypasses the digital rights check (such as AnyDVDHD).

You seem to be right there. I just installed MPC two days ago, and only tried it with one Blu-ray disc. I did get a menu, but it doesn't look like the menu I get on my Oppo, still it did play. Thus my somewhat careful "It seems to work".

I've tried a whole bunch of software players. The issue I have with most of them is that they do not provide good information on audio tracks and subtitles. In that regard PowerDVD still seems to be the best, closely followed by WinDVD (which still seems to have problems with Win 8, but I'm sticking with Win 7, so that's not a problem for me). MPC seems to give good info, but I need to pause playback first, otherwise it goes bonkers.

There is of course non-player software that will display the needed info, such as DvdpCa, but I really like to have that info available in the player. The "good" players don't come cheap, though.

I'm using Windows Media Player (WMP) to create or reaudit DVDs along with Profile Contribution Assistant. I view all trailers and other various videos with WMP and VLC. I used to use QuickTime, but they have fallen behind. I am thinking about buying Nero. I don't want cracked software, but I would like to be able to audit Blu-ray 3Ds as well, but that's not a deal breaker.

Bottom line – I don't watch movies on my PC, I just want to audit BRDs, and hopefully BR 3Ds of course along with DVDs.

I have Windows 7 Professional, a 30" Apple HD Monitor.

Not yet. The state of the open Blu-Ray playback in 2013

Ok, I just downloaded PowerDVD 13 Ultra and it plays BDs just fine including the menus which is needed for auditing discs. Does anyone know of any cons before I buy?

Thanks Srehtims, I'm gonna pull the trigger. The trial version worked great.

FYI: It can be bought for 59.95 right now and includes PowerDVD Remote & Power Media Player along with PhotoDirector.

By the by, I'm a retired IT guy...never took a break from computers, but things in my brain don't work quite the same as they used to.

I know it's only been a few hours, but so far PowerDVD is great. It plays DVDs, Blu-rays and Blu-ray 3Ds which is exactly what I was looking for so I can audit them all.

I'm using PowerDVD 13, and I'm quite happy with it (and AnyDVDHD).
