This past week the website and the Servers were both down here at Invelos.com .

'and Boy was i worried - this was it...'  You know-  No communication from Ken all year (except for the Xmas avatar)  and 'BAMM '' right on New Years Day...  for a few days  nothing..
and There is nothing you or I  can do..

I was glad I had my library updated to cloud ... so wasn't put out too much..
But from what I understand with communication with a couple FB friends ,,  The weather was bad enough to take down power lines etc in the Kentucky Virginia area .. So all is forgiven  and Thank you  Ken and Staff for your most  valued service..

Happy New Year !!

Was worried too, even contacted mediadogg via mail :D I'm wondering though if we should take some steps which would make it easier for us to at least have a chance to continue using the software should the site go down permanently. At least a forum/discord/whatever which the "active" members know exists and would hit up in case of a downtime to be able to communicate.

It must be said too, it would be much easier to reverse engineer the network protocol for a simulated server experience / a server replacement while the live server is actually running. Will be much harder once we only have the client...

I agree with all you said. Been thinking about the protocols for a long time, but I wanted to avoid anything that had the appearance of being illegal, so I have sent a couple of emails requesting access to the technology for free or fee. No response.
Thanks for your support.

DVD Profiler Users Fabcebook group exists and people have been there (mostly moaning) ever since Invelos went down... what's sad is Ken or an employee didn't get out a mobile phone just to send an 'Server is down due to power outages in storm; we are working to restore when we can' message just to stop some of the bickering.

Also I believe there is an all but abandoned (possibly official) Instagram account that could have been used.

Thank you for providing a link to the Facebook group I have just joined it and posted a comment. I am however so glad that the servers are back online.

so, to come back to the spitballed idea for using profile-files zipped together with the associated covers? As a quick band-aid while/if a server can be provided?

A little story related to the Invelos.com outage...
I was adding a new profile to my phpdvdprofiler based website the other day. After completing the update my website wouldn't load the right pane anymore. I spent a couple hours troubleshooting the issue only to discover that it was due to the Invelos.com website having gone offline which I wasn't aware of at the time. Obviously that defeats the whole purpose of hosting my own online collection.  Doh!  I've since corrected the issue, so I guess I have Invelos to thank.

You see, some time ago I updated the way the cover thumbnails populate in the right pane. Originally my website would look to see if I had uploaded a copy of the given thumbnail to my web space. If so, it would display it. If not, it would display an "image not available" graphic. It still works that way, but I added a step in the middle there. If my website can't find the thumbnail on my web space it then looks to see if the Invelos online database has a version of the thumbnail that can be displayed instead. Well as it turns out, the way I implemented this made the right pane always dependent on the Invelos.com website being available.  That wasn't my intention at all and I've since addressed the issue so. Lesson learned.

Note the DVD Profiler Facebook group is a fan group, I don't see either Ken or Gerri as members. The sole group admin hasn't posted in it since 2011 though he seems active on Facebook itself.

I'm really glad Invelos/DVD Profiler is back up and running again.  I worry for its longevity, I hope for its continuation.

Echo the thoughts of those who are pleased and relieved that DVD Profiler and the Invelos website are back up and running. My thanks to those working behind the scenes to achieve this.

But yet again the fragility of DVDProfiler's continued existence has been revealed. If only Mr Ken Cole and others would reply to emails / messages etc we could then plan to set DVD Profiler onto a more stable and long term existence.

Here's hoping....

Seems to be a bug with some Safari versions. You could just head to the discord website directly and use the "add server" function there, which allows you to paste the invite link I posted. Or use the desktop app.

I just joined, thanks for the Discord hydr0x.

Edit: Good to know you can edit your server profile so you can use your Invelos nickname there.
