| Posted: | | | | I would also love to see the app on my Moto droid. I would gladly pay for this as DVDP is the first thing back on my machine after a reload. You rock Ken!!! Keep up the great work- |

| Posted: | | | | Any Blackberry Books laying on your desk, Ken?? Don't forget that Blackberry still has a HUGE marketshare! After using DVDpro for a couple years on my ipaq, it drives me nuts not having access to it on my Blackberry. As previously suggested, even a mobile friendly online version would be a great start! |

The mobile version of DVD Profiler was okay on Windows Mobile 6.5, but it wasn't touch friendly in some areas and the resolution of the app was fixed. It could've been better. I'd love to see an Android version of the mobile app as well, but I hope it isn't just a straight port. Luckily, Android uses "Layouts" that allow those programming the user interface to specify everything in terms of relativity and percentages. Text and graphics are very easily scaled according to the device your program finds itself running upon. Because Android is on so many phones and even tablets are rumored to be on the way, we must be able to program the GUI to look good on all resolutions and screen sizes. Even radical changes in screen presentation must be accounted for when a user simply holds the phone from vertical position to horizontal instead! Android makes this so easy, it's almost ridiculous. Properly porting a GUI isn't typically the hard part. It's the learning curve of actually using the new paradigm consisting of different program interfaces for the "deeper part" that is more difficult. For example, Android uses open source software to achieve pretty much everything, including the SQLite database. If one has no experience with SQLite, and particularly with the Java JDBC interface that Android uses, there's a bit of a learning curve for sure. I typically avoid books when learning to program a new platform. Sure books are great for the types who enjoy page turning while lying in bed, but programming within a new environment is something that must be practiced, and you can only practice it upon a computer, that incidentally has internet-based programming resources much more comprehensive than any book. The main problem with books is that they represent the narrow views of the author at the time the text was written. In Android, a number of methods can be employed to achieve the same result. But a book will focus on one or two, despite the advantages of using other methods. Sure, one can use a book in conjunction with other learning resources, but I find the influence of most books can unduly influence (read "poison") a person's perception of the best way to approach a problem. |

| Posted: | | | | Add me to the list of <former> Blackberry people that now really REALLY wants an Android version of DVD Profiler. I could see an iPhone version coming before the droid rendition, but the Android based phones are gaining ground VERY FAST on the iPhone territory. The tools are free. The distribution is free. it's really hard to go wrong with Droid dev. I've been begging for a good mobile version of My Collection for some time (seems to be falling upon deaf ears) - but I'm more convinced we need a dedicated application for each major platform. I am a C# developer by trade - and I finally got around to installing the Android SDK, Eclipse and all the trimmings and have gone a step or two past HELLO WORLD. My first "app" will be something that works with my own website/products, but once I cut my teeth - I'd take a stab at a DVD Profiler app. Since I can't seem to get the developers to open up the web format a little to allow me to suck down the data for reformatting, the best that could probably happen is that you export your DVD Profiler collection, save the XML to your droid, and my app would pick it up and display it. If only we could get a "web service" of our collection - so much more could be done. Anyway, for those of you that need a solution to the problem of being at a store and saying "Look - there is THE MASK on Blu-Ray for $8 ... do I already own that? Gee, wish I had my blu list with me.", and you're on the Android platform, check out MEDIA TRACKER - it is cheap (not free) but it's as close as I've found to having DVD Profiler on the go. Maybe I can write an adapter between the two data sources ... I dunno. Would rather spend time working on an app. Just wanted to throw my hat into the ring |

| Posted: | | | | I wanted a phone solution so much, I bought an HTC Imagio with WinMobile 6.5 for $580 rather than buy the iPhone or droid and wait any longer. I'm hoping the next time I come up for renewal we actually have an iPhone or droid version so I don't have to settle again. But on the bright side, it was my decision to make and I'm happy having a solution. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | Since I am a C# developer I decided to write my on web app that takes the XML export and the images and displays a web page that is smart phone friendly. I just started on it, but so far so it is really good. I really only want an app that lets me see my collection on my phone.
If this works fine, I may take a stab at creating an Android app. |
