It would go against everything I believe to be the fundamental "good" of whoever is providing this resource, if it were to be taken away with no notice, or no explanation. But I do lament the strong chance that such an announcement of the end of DVDP as we know it, will come.

My suspicion is that invelos.com is a ghost ship sailing through the night under its own power and systems running on auto. I think it'll keep going until whatever account the server hosting is drawing from expires.

Nope - the business world doesn't work that way. Lots of folks are being paid on a regular basis to keep this going.

Being paid to keep the service available is not the same as being part of Invelos. I have an automatic withdraw set up for my on website hosting that pays people to keep the servers up but if my checking account closes or runs out of money, the site will be turned off.

I did see [someone involved with Invelos] log onto the forums yesterday so there's hope.

I don't want to insult you, but do you think keeping a corporate web server operational and legally functioning, along with the obvious continuing contributions and other web services, and ongoing availability of mobile applications, requires simply a monthly payment from a credit card?

I know it doesn't, but Ken has stated that a large part of the functionality is automated including forum moderation based on down votes and submitted profile updates based on votes. Things appear to be on auto pilot.

We are not going to agree on this. My views are not based on theory or hearsay or conjecture. Perhaps yours aren't either, and we just have a different set of life experiences, leading to different conclusions. So be it.

Saw a post today where Ken Cole was quoted. It reminded me of how much I miss him. His wisdom, wit, intelligence, ingenuity, patience and passion.  I hope he is somewhere enjoying this post.

It is past time for those of us who appreciate DVD Profiler to be realistic and face the time-proven possibilities:

Our respected creator Ken Cole is either physically dead or prevented/incapable/unable/unwilling to further support the program.

Whichever the case, it is no doubt sad and tragic - but quite likely given the passage of many years since he last acted here.

Of course death or incapacity comes to us all eventually.  But now while there is perhaps SOME TIME LEFT TO COORDINATE WITH KEN, could some qualified person(s) step in to keep DVDP healthy for present and future years?  As others have said, I also would be in for a startup fee plus monthly subscription to keep DVDP viable.

Here is what I think.

If Ken was dead, Invelos would be dead.
If Ken was uninterested/unwilling, Invelos would be dead.
If Ken was just incapacitated, would he not have let us know?
If Ken is prevented to further support the program, what could be the cause? Legal issues? We had a time of no communication when we went from Intervocative to Invelos. But four years?

Those who have Ken in their friends list can see when he last logged into the forum, and we have been told that he (or someone with his credentials) does indeed log in occasionally.

So the whole thing is a bit of a mystery.

Could someone else take over from Ken if that was a possibility? For support, sure. For further development, I'm not so sure. Unless the code is extremely well documented, taking over a project of this size is a nightmare. One-man projects are seldom well documented. The knowledge is in your head, not in your code. At least that's my experience.

I purchase DVD Profiler as a gift for any friends or family that has any remote interest in physical media. Whether they use it or not, I'm not always sure, but at least I'm throwing money towards Invelos whenever i can to help it keep going.

I am sure that is much appreciated by Invelos, as well as all of us. But it my feeling is that money is not the issue - at least not money from customer revenues.

I think Ken has lost interest in continued development of the program and just keeps what is alive for our sake.  Ken hasn't even added new titles to his online collection since 2018.  It makes me wonder if he still support physical media or if he just transitioned to digital.
