Looking at the back covers of my titles in the Paramount Presents series, I'm not sure which Media Company entry to use.

For every title I've checked, the back cover text says Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment, the logo says Paramount, and the copyright text says Paramount Pictures.

Some of the approved profiles specify Paramount Pictures as the Media Company, while others just use Paramount. I'd like to make them all consistent, but I'm not sure which entry to standardise on. The contribution rules suggest using the name from the logo (Paramount) or the credit block (Paramount Pictures), so there's some ambiguity as to which name is correct.

Has this been hashed out before? (I searched for "Paramount Presents" and "Paramount" in the Contributions section, but didn't see any threads that covered this question.)

I really depends on what is on the wrap/slip cover and that can vary sometimes from release to release. Sometimes in the credit block on the back cover they'll state a release was distributed (and/or marketed) by such and such company. In this case you'd use what is listed as is in the credit block. Other times there is no such mention.

I took a quick look at a few of my titles for the Paramount Presents line and on those copies there is no mention in the credit block. The only thing I see is the Paramount Pictures logo on the back cover and no logo of Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment or Paramount. Though there is a paragraph write up on the back that mentions "Paramount Pitures Home Entertainment is proud to spotlight..." so in that case I'd lean toward that.

Why not go for the lowest common denominator and leave it blank? We are allowed to do that when we don't know what data to use.

The rules state: "Some companies (using similar but different names) may serve more than one function. List such companies only once, using the name from the logo."

So what were the multiple company names listed on the back cover that triggered this rule?

I could only find one media company listed (copyrights by Paramount Pictures) at the bottom of the back cover.

In addition, isn't "Paramount" a truncation of "Paramount Pictures"?
The rules state: "Do not abbreviate Studio or Media Company names. e.g, use Universal Pictures not just Universal"

Just my two cents in the ambiguity slot machine. Hope it helps.

Lately, it's been "Paramount Pictures", indeed.
