| Posted: | | | | Well, it looks as if something happens I was kind of "scared" for years that it will come:
For a couple of weeks I am typing the whole cast & crew for the german series "Großstadtrevier".
One of the two sound guys since box 8 is "Tobias Krause". But then he seems to got married, because in box 13 partially and from box 14 on always he is credited as "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger"
I don't know for how many seasons/boxes he did the job, but so far I am done with box 17 and he was part of most of the episodes. So far at there are more counts as "Tobias Krause", but I presume that this is going to change.
So just imagine that I finish all cast & crew until box 20 and the count of the double-name dominates. This way - according to the rules - I would have to change ALL of the credits, what means: part of the database would become "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger" and for box 8 - 12 + partially box 13 he should be changed to "credited as Tobias Krause"
Not fun of a job to think about! But let's play this on: During box 25 he gets divorced and this way his name is "Tobias Krause" again. And he stays as part of the series for another 10 years. This way "Tobias Krause" would become the dominating count again and one more time ALL of his credits should be changed - according to the rules.
I thought about this problem a couple of years ago but as I had no example it was difficult to explain. Everyone who has ever typed cast & crew for several seasons knows how much work it is - and then changing 40 and more profiles because of just one name change is exhausting.
So in my opinion it would be just an idea to "modify" the rules to avoid work like described.
Alternative idea is if anyone develops a tool to do the job.
Tell me what you think about this "problem" |

| Posted: | | | | What I have learned what you can do is this. When the time comes that the most common credited name of "Tobias Krause" becomes "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger", do not rename the actor "Tobias Krause" to "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger". Instead create a second entry "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger". Now select "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger" on the left side and the "Tobias Krause" credit on the right side and press CTRL. Then the "Replace" button becomes a "Global Replace" button. When you do this, all "Tobias Krause" credits will become "Tobias Krause-Rüdiger" [as "Tobias Krause"]. If you have a cast image in your database though, you will have to copy it over to the "new" cast member as well. Also note: Quoting AiAustria: Quote: Addendum: - The profile, on which you are executing the replace, should list the name only once, since other appearances in the same profile are not replaced (therefore TV shows are bad starting points) - immediatly after the replace the profile should be saved (there are some minor bugs in this feature).
Now you can remove the actor "Tobias Krause" because it has no more assigned profiles. See here as well. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | That is a solution - but I am still concerned if such changes make sense? As I have just done Box 19 of the series, he is credited sometimes as "Tobias Krause" but most times as "Tobias Kraus-Rüdiger". I am quite curios which version has the majority when I am done with all seasons I own (only the last released one missing and another will come up within this year). |
