| Posted: | | | | Hi!
I've used the DVD Profiler for many months and I want to buy it now. But I've got three PCs and I want to use the full programm on every single of them - with different collections (because there are different DVDs in my cabin and at home). Is this possible or can the serial only be used on one PC?
Thanks in advance! |

| Posted: | | | | You can use dvdprofiler on several PCs at the same time. But with your ID/password, you can upload only one collection. If you upload collection 2 (PC2) after collection 1 (PC1), it will delete and replace it. So you can have several collections on local, and only one online.
If you buy the product, you will have access to new 3.6 (in version beta), that allows to create new collections. So on each computer, you will be able to have all your collections. Online is not yet able to manage those additionnal collections, but after the release, it would be the best use of the program. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | I have it installed on 2 machines. I'm sure that's in the license somewhere because I've checked in the past. The requirement is that it only be used on one machine at a time. Like a book can be shared, but only read by one person at a time. You can use it on computer A, then computer B, then computer A, then computer C. Just don't have it up and running on multiple machines at the same time. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | so to be clear I can have two databases on two machines and do everything like normal but I can't upload the second database to the Invelos website. |

| Posted: | | | | There are multiple options to all this.
Indeed, there is only one collection you can upload and display (if you want) publicly. Whatever collection is uploaded, also determines on which contributions you can vote upon for approval/disapproval.
Since ages you can have 3 different 'sub'collections (owned, wish, order). Whatever is under the tabname need not follow the meaning of that word. Your "ordered" could mean "cabin". You could use the language file to adjust the tab name, but that may not be persistent whenever Invelos releases a new version.
More importantly, you can have as many collections as you want on any PC where the program is installed. Follow the menu via File->"Open database..." and you can create databases (=collections) at will and switch within a few mouse clicks. Only one can be open at the time (the active collection).
If for instance your 'cabin' collection is then also present on your other PC, the remaining issue is keeping PC's synchronised. No automatic solution there, I'm afraid. The easiest way (IMO) is to transfer backup files via the backup/restore file functions. These operate per active collection.
If voting on contributions is important to you, you could create from time to time an 'integrated' collection via a restore without deleting current content in the active collection. Then upload. One caution though: whatever is uploaded doubles for publc display. If you want to keep one of your collections private, don't forget to turn off public display.
Version 3.6 promises even more options with collections, but it is still in early beta. As this is the new user forum, I won't venture there now... | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | so still a little confused, I want my collection on my pc and want to be able to profile, contribute and vote.
I want a completely different database on my daughters machine with her movies but what your saying (at least for now) I CANT profile, contribute and vote this database? What about adding new movies either to the owned or wishlist?
Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance You can only vote on things that are in your online collection. If you upload your daughters collection, it will overwrite your collection. That means you will no longer be able to vote on stuff in your collectio, until you reupload it, but you will be able to vote on stuff in hers. Make sense? Profiling and contributing, however, are not limited to what you have in your online collection. You can profile and contribute any title you have, regardless of which computer it is on, with no problems. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Thanks in advance Well, basically DVD profiler is geared towards a single person being licensed for the program and using it. If your daughter's machine uses the same license key as your own PC does, that isn't the intent but it'll work for local usage (read: what you do on either of the two PC's). Each may have a different collection, but no problem adding a new movie to owned, ordered or wishlist. Also, contributing should work without a hitch. It works because the program can't (of course) see who owns the machine. For all it cares it could be you, 1 PC with the collection 1 and another with collection 2. The problem comes when you want to do things online, like voting. As the Martian says, you'd have to switch (read: upload) to the other collection everytime that is needed. That creates an overhead Invelos can do without, I think (though I am not Invelos). A bit of maintenance work could be to create an integrated collection as mentioned before, so there is only one online collection. Or, more in the spirit of the license and rewarding Ken Cole (Invelos) for such a diverse usage of the program, obtain a second license. | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | hey there, i didnt read all the posts here in the threads so i dont know if this part of the idea was covered... as i am a registered user of this program dvd profiler and overall like it a lot.. in the 21st century as we have gotten to use MULTIPLE computers laptops and some unlike me mobile devices... here is want i want cleared up and answered...i want to use this program on multiple pcs/laptops... BUT I WANT TO USE the 1 DBASE that i started my collection on my original PC! With Multiple computers on my home networrk this way i can add movies from different locations of my house or school that i know i have to my MASTER Collection DBASE, THEN UPLOAD TO MY ONLINE COLLECTION i don't want problems of starting another collection on a different pc and then trying to merge the 2 collections and losing 1 in the process... i think in todays' time this really needs to be a high priority as many people may have other family members and friends helping them add hundrends of movies at a time... most all programs do this but not all will allow 2 users to use the same program at the same time..... YET i feel this would be a very big bonus for this program specifically for the users who have more than a thousand movies and just starting to use this program, yet wanting their kids/friends/other family to help build their collection at home FASTER than doing 1 person at a time.. if the ABOVE CAN HAPPEN or is in the process i would appreciate it | | | Working on my collection and updating some of my personal sites |
