I've installed phpDVDProfiler and have noticed some (German) issues.

The phpDVDProfiler seem to have some problems with German "Umlaute" (Ä, Ö, Ü, ä, ö, ü, ß).

1. The Database update process fails if an Umlaut occurs within the "purchased from" section (as in: Müller-Markt).

2. All Umlauts are replaced by ? on the SQL Database.

Within the "Collection.xml" file the Umlauts are still present as they should be. But after the update process the SQL Database contains always a "?" for each Umlaut character (independent from the type of Umlaut character). This let me guess that this isn't a Codepage problem.
It seem the updater drops these characters.

Does anyone have similar problems (usually German users)? And a solution.
Or is there an option to get the Umlauts through the updater?
And is there a newer version available then the one i use (v3.8.2.1)?

I ask on this board because i don't get access to the phpDVDProfiler board.

Works for me, see http://dvdliste.dvd-welt.de/ ... Place of purchase is "Täst"

ALL? Or just place of purchase? I usually don't have POP visible, but such a grave error in titles and cast wouldn't have gone unnoticed.

What does index.php?action=info gives you on your system?
Mine: phpDVDProfiler:Version=3.8.2.0|XML:Version=2014-04-01-18:58:15|MySQL:Version=4.1.22-log|PHP:Version=5.2.17

At the moment I suspect your MySQL, although I have no idea how that could not be able to handle simple umlauts. Can you change the copepage for your mysql-db?

Funny I have installed v3.8.2.1, yet "info" gives me v3.8.2.0

The new home for phpDVDProfiler is here:

3.8.2.1 fixed some problems with german Umlauts in relation to a PHP version newer than 5.4.0, maybe something was overlooked for the retailer field

All are replaced. Not just at "place of purchase".

So all seems rather current.

Yes i've tried to change the codepage. It has no effect. And as all different Umlaut character change to the same ?, i suspect that the original character info is lost during the update process.

oh it seems i've been gone to the wrong place.  But the problem here concerns all fields. But it's the retailer field who crashes the updater.
Take a look here: Test-Set-up

I hosted my web site on my Synology NAS et since the latest major update (DSM 5), the import of XML file doesn't work anymore correctly. In the update DSM 5, Synology has replaced MySQL by MariaDB so maybe it's not fully same and compatible with MySQL.

When I import my XML file, I have the following message:

Quote:

In the error log I have:

I don't know if someone use also a Synology and have updated to DSM 5 or if someone knows MariaDB and can help me. I don't have lot of knowledge in PHP.

And in the DB, the few (3 records) imported, special characters are not correctly displayed.

Thanks
Regards
Cyrille

Maybe the same problem that i had.
Try to rename the retailer Name "'VidÈo Square" to "Video Square". Let the DVD Profiler database repair run and try another XML update.
This has worked for me.
I use a Synology NAS also. Maybe the MariaDB have some issues with international characters.

Yes I think the issue is related to MariaDB because I have a dedicated server with CentOS and MySQL/PHP and no issue to import with the same XML file.
It  could also be an issue with the new version of PHP version and packages used by Synology in DSM 5. I have seen on the web many people complying about DSM 5 and web station hosting.

can you check your server/database settings and change the character_set for your database to latin1 and collation_server to latin1_swedish_ci?

Funny thing.
I've tried to register for the phpDVDProfiler forum and the phpMyProfiler forum as well. In both cases i haven't received a verification mail (No, it's not in the SPAM folder).
That's the reason why I'm here now.

You are right, there's no verification mail at the moment for the phpMyProfiler forum.
I have send a mail to the admin, to get this problem solved.
